Investing in Drivers That Keep ADS Moving

ADS operates the largest, privately owned fleet in the industry. That scale reflects how seriously we take logistics and the commitments we make to our drivers and customers. By investing in equipment, professional development and safety, we help our drivers deliver reliable service while building rewarding careers.

Our professional drivers navigate new challenges every day with no two days the same. New job sites, varied terrain and unique constraints are the norm and our drivers work closely with team members to load, schedule and dispatch across our network. Highly skilled work takes dedication, experience and time and it takes someone who consistently shows up, takes pride in their work and gets the job done safely and with care.

How ADS Invests in Drivers:

  • Driver of the Year recognition, celebrating outstanding performance and commitment to safety.
  • Ongoing investments in new tractors, trailers and other specialized equipment.
  • Career advancement opportunities through driver development initiatives.
  • CDL sponsorship programs that help individuals start or expand their driving careers.

Each year, during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we recognize one professional driver from 9 regions regions across our network, who embody that commitment, someone who shows up, makes an impact and keeps things moving. Additionally, ADS provides training and resources drivers need to build successful careers like, CDL sponsorship and career advancement opportunities depending on employee career goals. That investment continues long after onboarding through programs designed to recognize achievement and support professional growth even if that means expanding careers beyond driving.

Melissa Hempel, Vice President of Logistics at ADS, said:

"Beyond the Truck Driver of The Year nomination and awards banquet, our leadership team and I travel annually to ADS locations across the country during Driver Appreciation Week to sit down and listen to what our drivers experience on the road each day. We want to know the challenges they face. We want to know what they need to continue to be both safe and successful each day. We ask what we can do better in support of their work. We ask. But then, most importantly, we listen."

Compounded by the longevity of our team, many drivers choose to build long-term careers with us, with an average tenure of seven years. Our fleet’s strong tenure speaks to a workplace where people feel valued and supported.

More Than a Number

Our professional drivers are essential to everything we do. Open communication with our fleet is one of our highest priorities. By listening to feedback from teams in the field and using it to shape new policies and equipment changes, we strengthen our adaptability and ensure our operations continue to meet the needs of our drivers and customers. Our commitment to safety also means empowering drivers to speak up when something isn't right. Every driver has the authority to stop work if conditions become unsafe because getting everyone home safely is always the top priority.

Equipment Designed for the Job
We maintain a fleet of modern tractors, trailers and equipment that helps drivers work safely and efficiently. Built specifically for the work we do so our drivers have the tools they need to complete deliveries on time and intact. Tools like specialized self-unloading equipment streamlines deliveries, reduces unnecessary freight handling and increases safety, while allowing drivers to focus on continuing to provide exceptional service to customers.

ADS' logistics team uses real-time data, advanced technology and a strong carrier network to help move more than 1,100 trucks per day across 500 carriers. From planning to delivery, our team works every day to keep materials moving and projects on track.

Behind that scale is a team focused on more than simply getting from one destination to the next. Every load requires careful coordination, and every schedule has to account for the people making it happen. Keeping freight moving efficiently means creating schedules that support our customers while also giving our drivers the time they need to complete their shifts and get home safely.

Investing for the Long Term

Our commitment to drivers goes beyond providing a job. It’s about building careers and creating an environment where people can succeed for the long term. Through continued investments in people, equipment, safety and professional development, we give our drivers the tools, support and opportunities they need to thrive. By listening to our teams, recognizing their contributions and continuously improving the way we work, we remain focused on what matters most: our drivers, our customers and the communities we serve. Our success is driven by the people behind the wheel, and ADS is committed to investing in them every mile of the way.
