New York homeowner was in need of a new septic system on a property near an impaired body of water and aquifer. Because the site is subject to high groundwater levels, the system was designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of installing a shallow bed drainfield in these conditions.
The challenge was to install a septic system to provide the maximum amount of treatment prior to disposing the effluent where it can enter the groundwater aquifer and nearby water body. The shallow drainfield bed designed was a new approach to effluent disposal for this area. The engineer and installer worked closely with the jurisdiction during the approval process to explain the design benefits. The site also had limited access and installation needed to be completed with small equipment to provide minimal damage to existing landscaping.
The project site encompasses two acres but a large portion of the property is wooded and the homeowner wanted to preserve as many trees as possible. Access was tight so the Infiltrators chambers enabled the team to complete the installation with a small excavator. Only a limited number of small shrubs were moved and then replanted in the same location after the installation was complete.
The septic system includes a 1,500-gallon primary treatment tank, a packed bed filter treatment unit, a pump basin with a dosing pump, and Infiltrator Quick4 Standard Chambers for disposal and final polishing.
