The Stratus Village Apartments project is a new affordable housing development in McMinnville. The apartment complex required a stormwater management system that would provide water quality to meet local and federal regulations.
Due to adjacent wetlands, the project needed to meet National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Standard Local Operating Procedures for Endangered Species (SLOPES V) design standards, which require the use of a Washington State Department of Ecology (WSDOE) General Use Level Designation (GULD) enhanced treatment approved devices.
SOLUTION
Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) worked with the consulting engineering firm to design the water quality systems for the site. The design engineer utilized the EcoStream BioFiltration system due to the product’s regulatory approvals and efficient design. ADS was able to optimize the design and provide small, cost-effective systems that met the rigorous design and regulatory requirements needed on the six-acre site.
In total, 16 EcoStream systems were installed throughout the apartment complex, and were designed to treat the full site’s impervious areas. Some EcoStreams were installed at low points in the parking lot to collect surface runoff, while others were installed in landscaped areas to collect piped runoff from roofs, pedestrian areas and walkways. A mix of planted and plantless underground EcoStream units were utilized.
Overall, ADS provided the site with high-performing, cost-effective stormwater solutions designed to ensure that the project not only meets but exceeds local regulatory water quality requirements.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS
EcoStream BioFilter is designed to capture and retain a variety of pollutants including sediment, nutrients, heavy metals, phosphorus, and hydrocarbons while helping to meet green infrastructure objectives. This high flow, low impact system incorporates the processes of sedimentation, filtration, adsorption, and biological. EcoStream comes in many standard sizes and is available in several different deployment configurations. Internal bypass configurations are available. EcoStream should be activated after site stabilization to prevent the construction site stormwater runoff from entering the system.
