PRODUCTS USED
The facility required stormwater conveyance to manage runoff. The distribution center was a design/build project, so material availability was pivotal to handle the project’s ever-changing design and a responsive supplier was required.
SOLUTION
Sunland Asphalt & Construction contacted Advanced Drainage Systems’ representatives for a price request and product availability. ADS recommended HP Storm polypropylene pipe for the stormwater conveyance to meet shipping timelines and performance specifications, while having a lower overall installation cost.
HP Storm, which is approved for storm drainage applications under railways by the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), increases job site installation speed allowing Sunland to finish the job on time and on budget. The polypropylene pipe’s stiffness also met the project’s shallow installation requirements.
Over 2,700’ (823 m) of HP Storm, ranging from 24”-48” (600-1200 mm) was installed at the BNSF site. Because the project was design/build, ADS could deliver the product reliably on an as-needed basis. HP Storm’s ability to nest smaller pipe diameters within larger diameters makes shipping easier, requires fewer truckloads and minimizes on-site storage footprint. The lighter weight of HP Storm improves handling and installation efficiencies.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS
HP Storm polypropylene pipe provides superior pipe stiffness, longer bells and spigots and a premium joint performance for a longer service life. The smooth interior wall offers additional strength and high flow capacity.
HP Storm pipe, available in diameters from 12”-60” (300-1500 mm) meets or exceeds the
standards specified in ASTM F2881 and AASHTO M330 and the extended bell and spigot meets ASTM D3212.
Polypropylene is resistant to the effects of chemicals, abrasion, hot soils and effluent.
