EcoStream BioFilter Plant Guide

This document is the EcoStream Biofilter Plant Guide. Guideline information with detail example explains the process and criteria.

The EcoStream profile view shows tree grates, growth media and filter media.

Each selection should be evaluated for the following criteria and attributes:

• Hardiness Zone

• Moderate to high drought tolerance

• Non-Invasive and shallow root systems

• Max. mature height of 25 feet (7.6 meters)

• Anticipated canopy spread

• Locational and seasonal availability

Only container grown plants with a 15 gallon (56.8 liters) pot or less should be planted. Crated or burlap wrapped field grown trees should not be used; avoiding media displacement and protrusion. All foliage to be minimum of 6 inches (150 mm) above the tree grate. Trunk heights of 2 - 3.5 feet (0.6 - 1.1 meters) or greater are critical and dependent on the depth to media and slab thickness used. If multi-trunk varieties are selected, a tight limb spread is recommended, avoiding contact with the tree grate’s opening; 16 inch (400 mm) opening diameter typical.

Please note, the EcoStream system may require irrigation similar to other planted areas onsite and will require more frequent irrigation during the establishment period, just after planting. The ideal selection will reduce maintenance in regard to irrigation, pruning, or premature replacement.
