The park is multi-tiered and has walking paths, a playground, event space, beer garden and green space.
Across the street from the new park is the sprawling Harley-Davidson complex, which was once a factory, but now is used for office space and training facilities.
To capture the park's stormwater 40 8"-30" Nyloplast Drain Basins were utilized. The stormwater was then conveyed in N-12 Dual Wall high-density polyethylene pipe to StormTech chambers. A StormTech Isolator Row was built into the system to provide enhanced suspended solids and pollutant removal. The stormwater was held in the StormTech chambers until it could be released into the city stormwater sewer system.
Originally, the detention system was specified to be corrugated metal pipe (CMP). The pipe system was flipped to StormTech. N-12 and Nyloplast were on the original plans allowing for ADS to completely supply the park's drainage system with its wide product array.
A lower installed cost and the ease of installation were two reasons the detention system was flipped to StormTech. Another key factor is the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, which provides water reclamation and flood management services in greater Milwaukee, has regulations regarding green infrastructure. StormTech chambers meet the regulations.
MJ Construction was utilizing StormTech for the first time and found the chamber system installation to be fast and simple.
StormTech Chambers come in a variety of sizes so designers and site developers can choose a model that fits their project needs. The elliptical arch design transfers loads to the surrounding backfill to provide long-term safety factors required by AASHTO. The chambers are injection molded for uniform wall thickness.
N-12 dual wall pipe has a corrugated exterior and smooth interior wall that provide exceptional strength and hydraulics. The inert HDPE material is resistant to the effects of chemicals, abrasions, and hot soils. N-12 is available in 4":-60" diameters and in 20' lengths. The inline bell design allows for pipe ends to be pushed together for easy installation. The joint requires only a lubricant during installation which leads to faster installation.
Nyloplast drain basins were custom built for the project as they are for each application. Nyloplast products are more durable and corrosion resistant than precast basins and combine a rugged PVC structure with ductile iron grates. The basins can be easily adjusted in the field to meet the final grade. The structures are shipped with rubber gaskets to ensure a watertight connection.
