Highway 401 1
As part of a $640 million project to reduce congestion, shorten commute times and encourage economic growth, a 1.2-mile stretch of Highway 401 was expanded to accommodate traffic volume and used Duraslot Slotted Drains for stormwater management.

PRODUCTS USED

Duraslot is an HDPE pipe with an aluminum slot that intercepts sheet flows of water and is being used for the first time on a major Canadian 400-series highway.

Duraslot was chosen because the shallow installation depth reduces installation costs and the contractor could install 60 m (197’) feet per day. In order to lessen the impact on traffic flow, Duraslot was installed at night.

A total of 2,200 meters (7,218’) of Duraslot was installed as part of the project, which will become a 10- and 12-lane road with high occupancy lanes, new and reconstructed bridges and upgrades to utilities and the stormwater drainage system.
