Avon, a western suburb of Indianapolis, is growing quickly and Avon Community Schools built a new middle school to meet the district's burgeoning population. As part of this project, the school district added an asphalt track and tennis and pickleball courts.

PRODUCTS USED

To remove the track’s and courts’ stormwater, 182’ (55 m) of 18” (450 mm) Duraslot XL was installed to capture the sheet flow coming from the surfaces. Duraslot XL, with variable slot heights, was chosen for the project as it can capture the sheet flow and convey the water to the city storm sewer.

The installation was the first project where Duraslot was installed on a curve. To make installation easier for the track’s curvature, the Duraslot XL sticks were shipped in 5’ (1.5 m) sticks rather than the normal 10’ (3 m) sticks. The curves were made with segments of Duraslot XL sticks and fastened together with normal Duraslot XL couplers with a maximum gap of ¼” (6 mm).

ADS visited the project on a regular basis to answer questions about the Duraslot XL installation. Duraslot captures sheet flow across flat or mildly sloped drainage areas. Duraslot can be installed in shallow applications and is ideally suited for heavy load rated applications on roads, airports and warehouse projects. The pipe is light weight and easy to field cut.
