Tsawwassen: SaniTite HP Holds, Conveys Water Case Study

This document is the case study for Tsawwassen: SaniTite HP Holds, Conveys Water Case Study. 2 mega malls were constructed that required a storm sewer.

The construction of two mega-malls, one enclosed shopping mall and an outdoor retail space, next to each other required the use of a storm sewer. The sewer would need to convey stormwater flows around the sites’ perimeter under public roads. Given the saline environment of the soil and poor soil, SaniTite HP was chosen for the project.

SaniTite HP provides corrosion resistance and offers the structural strength needed in the poor deltaic soil conditions in the seismically active region. SaniTite HP’s light weight and integral bell-and-spigot joints allowed the contractor to install 60 metres (200’) of pipe per day whereas 30 metres (100’) was the goal.

The pipe was installed on a zero percent grade with as little as 450 mm (18”) of cover to act as a holding tank as well as conveyance. The held water was then able to enter nearby ditches, which are used by local farmers for irrigation.

The installation was done in January-March, 2015 using 1418 m (4,650’) of 1500 mm (60”) SaniTite HP, 24 m (78’) of 1200 mm (48”) SaniTite HP, 6 m (20’) of 750 mm (30”) SaniTite HP, 54 m (177’) of 900 mm (36”) SaniTite HP and 36 m (118’) of 450 mm (18”) SaniTite HP.

Photographs of the project are included.
