As part of Daytona Speedway’s construction project, nearby roads were also improved. The existing stormwater ditches along U.S. 92 (International Speedway Boulevard) were replaced by a closed drainage system using HP Storm pipe.

PRODUCTS USED

The closed system allowed for sidewalks to be built to help with spectator foot traffic at Daytona Speedway’s events.

Hazen Construction chose HP Storm because of the pipe’s rigidity. Florida DOT projects require laser profiling and HP Storm “is very rigid so it never goes out of round”, according to Hazen Construction’s Chad Hazen. Other factors in Hazen construction choosing HP Storm is ease of installation, watertight joints and the pipe could be buried between 3’-9’ (.9-2.7 m) with native soil.

In addition, 134 Inserta Tees, ranging from 24” x 18” (600 x 450 mm) to 48” x 18” (1200 x 450 mm), were utilized for the lateral connections. Inserta Tees were chosen over precast structures to save installation time and money.
