To save Southgate residents from recurring sewage backup into basements, Hennessey Engineers designed a relief sewer line using SaniTite HP.

PRODUCTS USED

 

The relief sewer line allows excess flows during large wet weather events to be diverted through the relief sewer and to be discharged into the Southgate-Wyandotte Drainage District Interceptor.

Hennessey Engineering and CI Contracting had never used SaniTite HP prior to this job, although CI Contracting had experience with N-12® HDPE pipe. The engineer and contractor were please with SaniTite HP providing longer pipe lengths, ease of handling since it was a deep burial and product availability. 

All of these factors sped up the project, which was completed nearly a month earlier than expected. The completion date was welcomed when Southgate had a 100-year storm event in August 2014. The system did what it was designed for and was able to handle the overflow stormwater and did not flood basements in the are
