An emergency repair was needed on Highway 1 after a debris slide caused damage to culverts in numerous areas of San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties.

PRODUCTS USED

Caltrans District 5 utilized HP Storm in lieu of reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) at the request of the contractor and maintenance engineer. The reason HP Storm was chosen was its structural integrity, joint integrity, quick installation and availability. HP Storm is manufactured in Madera, CA, and is five percent the weight of RCP. This makes it cost-effective and easy to transport to the job site.

Caltrans District 5 and Caltrans Headquarters approved the installation and have used HP Storm as an RCP substitute in numerous other cases. HP Storm provides significant cost and schedule savings for newly and revitalized stormwater infrastructure projects across California.
