World Water Day 2022: Making the Invisible Visible

Today is World Water Day.

Each year, on the 22nd of March, United Nations Water reminds us about Earth’s most precious natural resource. This year’s theme of “Making the Invisible Visible” is dedicated to raising awareness of groundwater and its impact around the world. Although it’s under our feet, out of sight, it may be the only water people have available. We need to work together to sustainably manage this precious resource for present and future generations.

What is groundwater and why is it important?

Groundwater is the water that fills aquifers, which are natural underground storage spaces in rock, sand or soil. It’s a vital resource, providing freshwater to almost half of the world’s population. This liquid groundwater supports drinking water, sanitation systems, farming, industry and ecosystems. Groundwater is also an important buffer against drought and climate change.

Did you know?

Groundwater accounts for over 30% of the freshwater on Earth

Despite its importance, groundwater is often taken for granted and not well understood. Groundwater is “invisible” because it’s hidden underground and out of sight. This can make it difficult to value and manage properly.

There are many things we can do to sustainably manage our groundwater resources. We can:

ADS’ Impact on Water

From the moment rain hits the ground until the moment it’s returned to its natural environment, we manage the world’s most precious resource: water. At ADS, every action we take as a company keeps this natural resource in mind because water is essential to life as we know it. Our impact begins with our lifecycle of a raindrop.

What do these stages really mean?

We capture stormwater in our basins and convey it through our Polypropylene (PP) or High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe. We then store it in our StormTech chambers and treat it through our water quality products, removing pollutants before returning the water back to the earth. This allows us to think more about the story of a raindrop. We’re able to craft highly resilient solutions that focus on the story, allowing us to keep water at the heart of our sustainably engineered products.

On World Water Day 2022, let’s commit to making the invisible visible and sustaining our groundwater resources for future generations.
