StormTech Provides Capacity Case Study

This document is the StormTech Provides Capacity Case Study. In Qatar, the Muntazah Street project was a major highway upgrade in advance of the FIFA World Cup.

The Muntazah Street project, started in 2010, was a major highway upgrade and improvement for Doha in preparation to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Because Middle East rain events are of high intensity and short in duration, the rains tend to cause major flooding.

Therefore large filtration systems were needed to be installed in rectangular trenches, up to 4 m (13 feet) deep along 5 km (3.1 miles) of the new road.

Originally, the system was going to be built using a crate system, but they could not provide the infiltration required. Therefore, 7,161 StormTech MC-3500 chambers were utilized for the 20 individual infiltration systems for a total volume of 42,765 m3 (1,510,231 ft3).

A StormTech Isolator® Row was incorporated into each tank unit for removal of total suspended solids (TSS).

The StormTech MC-3500 chambers were chosen for the project because of their large infiltration area, Isolator Rows are easily maintained and the ease of the chambers installation.

The installation was done in Summer 2018 using 7,161 MC-3500 StormTech® Chambers and 0601TG Non-Woven Geotextile.

Photographs of the project are included.
