Porter Ranch Storm Drain Case Study

This document is the case study for Porter Ranch Storm Drain. To keep a development’s aesthetic appeal, pipeline following the contours of the land discussed.

While building the Porter Ranch community, it was important to keep the development’s aesthetic appeal. Therefore, the stormwater pipelines would need to follow the contours of the land in Porter Ranch, which includes several villages and a 50-acre park.

ADS HP Storm was specified for the job over RCP. A main reason HP Storm was specified is the built in gaskets provide watertight joints, so there is not a need for additional grouting as would be needed with RCP. In addition, HP Storm can be field cut and assembled with bends and angles in order to follow Porter Ranch’s winding roads.

The 24” (600 mm) and 36” (900 mm) HP Storm pipe was used for the main lines, while 18” (450 mm) pipe was used for laterals. The cover for most of these pipe sizes ranged from 6’-8’ (1.8-2.4 m). The 42” (1050 mm) HP Storm pipe was specified for the Porter Ranch Park and was buried up to 30’ (9.1 m) deep.

The installation was done in spring of 2021 using 1,300’ (396 m) of 18” (450 mm) HP Storm, 2,000’ (609 m) of 24” (600 mm) HP Storm, 340’ (104 m) of 36” (900 mm) HP Storm and 1,000’ (305 m) of 42” (1050 mm) HP Storm.
